Greetings Friends of Faerieworlds,

On August 7, 2008, Priscilla Hernandez and Hector Corcin returned to Barcelona, Spain after two enchanting performances at Faerieworlds 2008. Upon arrival in the city of Barcelona, Priscilla and Hector were attacked by armed assailants, and robbed in broad daylight.

During the assault all of the money they made from CD sales at Faerieworlds was stolen, as well as their laptop, sound card(which they need to work on their music), HD video camera, digital photo camera, as well as the keys to their home and car, and their passports. Not only were their magical digital memories of Faerieworlds stolen, but they also lost many of the tools which make it possible for them to continue to work as musicians and artists.

This site has been set up as a place to make donations to help them recover from this tragic loss. Please use the link below to make a donation. 100% of proceeds will go toward the replacement of their lost items and money. Payments will be processed by Peasant Tree Creations, Woodland's offiicial Paypal site. The festival will also make a large contribution to help them in this difficult time.

New Year's Details!!!

On December 31st, 2007, WOW Hall will host the Faerieworlds New Year's Masquerade. The event will feature Faerieworlds headlining musical performers Woodland, The Wicker Men, and acclaimed sphereplay performer Chris Murdoch. The event will be emcee'd by award-winning Faerieworlds storyteller Mark Lewis.

The evening will feature three sets of music, as well as storytellers and a midnight New Year's countdown. The evening will also include a special performance by Chris Murdoch, who recently appeared with Woodland live at FaerieCon in Philadelphia, mesmerizing east coast audiences at the Good Faeries and Bad Faeries Masquerades at the historic Trocadero Theatre. Murdoch performs with glass spheres reminiscent of David Bowie's Goblin King character in Labyrinth, only Murdoch often juggles and spins between four and eight spheres at once in a hypnotic and illuminating dance. Set live to the otherworldly music of Woodland, this will be a WOW Hall performance not to be missed!

Award-winning storyteller and performer Mark Lewis who was featured at Faerieworlds and FaerieCon this year, will be hosting the evening, conducting live interviews and sharing stories and song. The WOW Hall doors will open at 8pm, with the Wicker Men opening the evening at 8:30pm. The show is all ages, and admission is $18 in advance and $20 at the door.

precious pentacles! I am honored to be going to the city of brotherly love with my new faerie family! Woodland's music courses through my veins and pulses through my heart. Musically Opinionated Children

So we're driving around on Sunday running errands, and the fae child and I are sitting in the car waiting for Lei. I hooked up the iPod, figuring we'd listen to some music. I put on Lily Allen ('Alfie' being one of Fae Child's favorite songs). "No, Dad, I want to listen to fairy music!" "You don't want to listen to this?" "NO! I want fairy music!"

So, okay, I scrolled down, found Woodland on Mom's iPod, and started up 'Twilight'. She got a big smile on her face, and started singing along with 'I Remember'. Yes, Kelly and Lio, our five-year-old daughter knows the words to your songs. :-)

By the way, does anybody here use last.fm (http://www.last.fm/ )? If so, feel free to add me to your friends list--same nick there as here.

So, anyone else here that have met Kelly and 'Lio and have read Charles deLint... I think that Kelly and 'Lio ARE Meran and Ceran... deLint MUST have used them for his models in those stories.

As Jilly Coppercorn said, she thinks Ceran is like a wizard who learned magic, while Meran simply IS magic... So true of our dear friends Kelly (aka Meran) and 'Lio (aka Ceran) heh heh!

Celtic Festival

Have you ever thought of playing the Celtic Festival in Grass Valley, CA? I think you guys would like it. It's like going to the Highland Games/Ren Faire for 3 days, and you get to camp out and have awesome jam sessions with the musicians who play. The Wicker Men play there and they are one of my favorite bands to see, besides Molly's Revenge. Here's the link just so you can check it out. The League of Robin Goodfellow go there, so there are faeries there too, and new this year is a Faerie Wood for adults. Last year was awesome. This year should be good too!

A Fairy Needs Your Vote

My name is Melissa Belland. I was in a band during the 80’s and 90’s called Voice Of The Beehive. When I was on tour in Australia I met a fairy and my life changed forever as I become a huge fan of fantasy and fairies and have been creating my own fairies out of clay and porcelain which I sell at a local art festival in Laguna Beach California called the Sawdust Festival. A friend of mine encouraged me to enter into an online “American Idol” type contest that Yahoo is running. The contest started with over 9000 people and has been reduced to 5 finalists and I'm one of them! (why they would select a fairy is beyond me but maybe there is some mischief at work here) This is a nationwide contest that's been covered in the local papers and has many press releases in the news. Yahoo recorded a video of each finalist and people on the internet vote. The video of me with my fairies is charming but looks odd when compared to the other 4 finalists that have manufactured products with elaborate business models. All my fairies are handmade with vintage fabric from the 40's, fabric from costumes I wore on stage, and a variety of crystals with natural fibers, wood, moss, and dried flowers. You can go to the Yahoo site and see the video along with the other 4 finalists but I thought since you were all members of the fairy community you might give me a vote.

I'd love to hear what you think and I would be VERY grateful for your vote. You can vote once a day until the 25th of June. If you don't have a Yahoo ID, you can create one in 1 minute and you don't need to provide any personal information or your current email address.

If any of you visit the Sawdust Festival this summer please stop by and introduce yourself. I would love to meet you.

Seelie and Unseelie
Summer and Winter, Day and Night, Fire and Ice. The two courts of the Fae once changed their seasons with the turn of the year, Seelie ruling the Summer days and Unseelie the winter nights. The dance of seasons played out in each fae soul as well, Courts changing with death and rebirth.

While in many respects the two Courts have "made peace" during the ********, there remain essential differences between the Seelie and the Unseelie soul, more differences even than between Noble and Commoner. After all, the differences between Seelie and Unseelie is more than merely political.

Changeling (Also called Sidhe and Fae) society is like a complex symphony of several movements, harmonies and measures, throughout which run these two distinct themes -- the concepts of Seelie and Unseelie. The influence of these states reverberates on all levels of social interaction, and they are as ubiquitous as light and darkness.

More than simply political affiliations, the states of Seelie and Unseelie are ways of being and philosophies of existence. Each manifests in a Court, and although all Kithain have qualities of both Seelie and Unseelie, one always holds sway and is embraced over the other. The nature of each Court is widely known; they are not secrets or little-known truths.

One's Court -- the nature for which a changeling has a predilection -- marks one in many ways. These marks are impossible to define, but are keenly felt and affect all Kithain (Fae) social interaction, regardless of any rational thought. A Seelie always mistrusts an Unseelie. An Unseelie always holds a Seelie in contempt. They may mask these feelings, but some small degree of prejudice always exists. Such is the dual nature of the Kithain.

At one time the Seelie and Unseelie fought incessantly on the battlefield, but this is no longer the case. While there are still some who mindlessly disparage or even war against their inimical court, members of the two generally tolerate each other. Open bigotry is a thing of the past.

All that can be said for certain is that the courts are rivals and that they are different from one another.
In fact, it is not unknown for Kithain to change loyalties from one Court to the other. However, this is not just an idle affectation. When a changeling embraces her opposite nature, she makes a tremendous choice that alters her very existence and place in Kithain society.
While once the Courts Warred incessantly, during the *********, after the days of the Shattering and after the Sidhe were said to have vanished from the Earth, the two Courts trapped in the Clay World put a temporary end to their eternal rivalry in order to assure the survival of the Dreaming. This has led to some odd juxtapositions within changeling society. Occasionally a freehold's lord will belong to a different Court than most of his members, and an oathcircle will sometimes contain both Seelie and Unseelie members, all of them bound by oaths that transcend their different outlooks.

Although neat pigeonholing of the differences between Seelie and Unseelie Courts is almost impossible, there are a few general distinctions that differentiate one from the other. Seelie are associated with light, summer and daytime; Unseelie belong to darkness, winter and night. The Seelie Court represents orderly traditions and lawful behavior; the Unseelie Court is notorious for breaking old traditions, devising new ones and, in general, urging constant change. These are not always the hard-and-fast descriptors for determining a changeling's Court. Occasionally a Seelie changeling fosters radical notions, while a veteran Unseelie knight holds extremely conservative attitudes. What is certain is that the two Courts exist and are locked in an endless cycle of rivalry. Together they embody all that is both good and bad, light and dark, static and dynamic in changeling society.

On rare occasions a changeling switches from one Court to the other, usually as a result of some great personal transformation in her life. Changing Court is not done lightly, for in order to do so a changeling must forswear her old nature and surrender to the other half of her personality, taking on her Seelie aspect if she was formerly Unseelie or vice versa. This choice alters her place in Kithain society and transforms her perceptions of herself. Accordingly, changing Court usually takes place only at certain symbolic times of the year, such as during the Samhain or Beltaine festivities.

Death Before Dishonour

Love Conquers All
Love is the soul of the Dreaming. True love transcends all and is the perfect expression of what it is to be Seelie. Courtly, romaintic love is considered the highest form of love, but familial love is pure as well. Anything is permitted in the name of True Love.

Beauty Is Life
Beauty is a timeless, objective quality that cannot be described, but is recognized whenever it appears. Beauty is the muse of creation, the ultimate flowering of the Dreaming. Once found, it must be protected. Many heroes have died protecting beautiful places, people and things. True beauty is eternal.

Never Forget A Debt
One gift deserves another. If you receive a gift, then you should give one. If you are subjected to a curse, then you should intone one. One oath of friendship deserves another. Never forget a kindness ... or a slight.

The Seelie have always been known as the guardians of tradition. They keep the peace, foster love, protect the weak and maintain the ideals of chivalry. They are the Keepers of Old Dreams, trusting those traditions over new ways.

Most Seelie desire to reunite themselves with the Dreaming, and will do so at any cost. For the Seelie, the worst crimes are oathbreaking, treason, cowardice, and dishonour. In their own eyes, they are bringers of justice, providers of stability, keepers of tradition, paragons of chivalry and disciples of truth. They hold beauty, true love and honour as their greatest virtues.

The Unseelie have always been known as those who mocked tradition, brought war and change, fostered madness and fear, reviled the weak and upheld freedom and wildness over any chivalric code. They see themselves as radical visionaries, changing with the times and always looking toward the future.

The Unseelie hold stagnation, repression, narrow-mindedness, censorship, weakness and traditionalism to be the worst of crimes. They see themselves as champions of change, paragons of freedom, awakeners of thought and enemies of inhibition.

In essence, the Seelie represent tradition, and the Unseelie represent adaptation. Yet also there are elements of Summer and Winter, Day and Night, Honour and Necessity, Beauty of Silk and Beauty of Blood.

heart of faerie

i was asked to write this for a druid group i am part of....since i rarely have the time to sit down and map out my views in this way, i figured i'd make the most of it by posting it here also....

i've been asked to share my view on the faerie realm here. this is perfect for me as i am often reluctant to share what i know, as faerie is essentially the spirit world, and as such cannot ever be pinned down factually....

faerie is the innerspirit of matter. as such i often see faeries as mother earth's children...of course the father is equally responsible for their existance, but my mind tends to lean towards viewing the matter (mater, mother) as a life giving mother...whose consort, soul mate, yang for her yin etc...is the one father.
the great ma and pa, of which all other deities, spirits, material forms stem down from...the co creative force of positive and negative energies...the dance of darkness and light...

within this eternal dance exists myriad forms....the earth, as my home, offers many opportunities to contemplate and study the multiple dimensions of physical reality. as humans, we have two eyes designed to see the outerworld of dense physical form. we also have powerful minds, and beating hearts....somewhere within all of this, exists the ability to see beyond obvious dense physical forms....through veils into dimensions of subtler energies, essentially, into the realm of spirit.

this can happen through the mind's eye with meditation, we can see outside of ourselves and reach higher vibrational planes...
but i believe that the faerie realm is viewed through the "heart's eye". it is the inner landscape of all that is. that is why it is often referred to as the underworld. it is often seen as a place of darkness, and truly has been given fearful and demonic associations by "light worshippers" for aeons. to reach the faerie realm one must travel within their own soul scape, in the darkest chambers of one's own heart.
as microcosms of the earth, faerie is found in our hearts. this is why so many people "sense" faeries, but don't necessarily "see" them. if you allow your heart to transmit the vibration to your mind, then it is up to your imagination to interpret the vibration as an image. this is how faerie serves as a mirror to our world. and also why we all see them differently.

if you look back at the origin of the words associated with faerie, you can find some interesting clues as to the essence of their meaning.
originally an elf, was a spirit of someone deceased. the elf mounds were where we buried our loved ones. the celtic people were very much at one with nature, so you can imagine how they would see their loved ones souls as living on within the earth, after death. i believe contemplations of death also lead to the concept of the sidhe. the bodies of our dead ancestors were buried beneath the ground, becoming one with the earth. but what of the last breath before death? the final outbreath that frees the soul unto the wind? that is sidhe, simply, the wind. so already we see, that both elves, and the sidhe, are our essential spirit forms, without bodies. they are eternity, where we all came from, and where we return. so we are all faeries, having a temporary human moment here.

the story of the danaan tribe who ruled the mother eire befor the milesians came and took over, is a fascinating way of engaging yourself in faerie musings...as are all the old stories.
the tuatha de danaan were the tall blond crystal wielding tribe who were "driven beneath the ground" by the invading milesians who are the celtic ancestors. the danaans are known to exist in their faerie raths beneath the mounds. what mounds? were they killed in a physical battle and buried? was it a real war? why did the milesians win? i am told that the mother eire sided with the milesians. the danaan were using crystals to manipulate energy and work their own form of powerful magic. but crystals are carefully placed by nature in an energetic grid within the earth. is this random and accidental? what happens when humans dig them up and use them as they see fit to empower their own trip? is a greater balance upset then? i don't know, but i don't buy crystals. and whenever i am around very large specimens, i have a burning urge to bury them within the earth, i was this way long before i read the old stories...... this is, as i said, my personal view on the possible reality of one aspect of this story. but it is a story, and doesn't afford us alot of concrete evidence, and there are many versions of the one story. even so, the old legends are useful for us to find out more about our own inner landscape, and what moves us, and possible meanings for our leanings if you know what i mean.....

i have the conviction that i have been here forever in some form or another. i feel that science has proved this spiritual concept with the simple fact that energy never dies it only changes form. so maybe there is a rhyme and reason behind our resonance with certain myths, stories, archetypes, deities even....
a faery song as brought through by yeats in ireland says "we who are old, old and gay, oh so old....thousands of years thousands of years if all were told...."

the word faerie comes from "fata" fate. so the soul has something to do with the physical life form's beginning and end? of course.
faeries were not seen originally as little winged girlies in tutus. originally if we said "faerie" we were speaking of a particularly witchy earth and spirit connected person. a faerie woman was someone who retained the wisdom of the old ways and of her ancestors, the understanding of the nature of life, death and rebirth, of the cycles of eternity, and her place therein. if you look at some of the really old poetry, you will find that faeries were once among us, not as winged ethereal beings, but cloaked in flesh. eventually, these earth connected humans were persecuted as "witches"....

it wasn't until victorian times that faeries became tiny little angels. less important than the christian view of an empowered eternal soul.

we all come from a great family tree that roots back through millenia. our story is written in the stones of the earth, that are made up of the bodies of all that came before us. the trees growing up through this subterranian soulscape, have the power to carry memories from the underworld, through middle earth, and on up into the upperworlds. that is why working with trees is so spiritually empowering, druids understood this quite simply. it is also why it is so easy to free a stuck 'ghost' from a haunt, by leading them to a powerful tree....try it sometime, it's easy by nature!

it would make sense to me that our ancestors, who died doing whatever it was they were doing, would have an interest in us, their decendents. we have the ability to continue, or end the work of those who came before us....many of our ancestors were wrongly persecuted for holding sacred our spiritual heritage, in a time when abusive power forms sought to gain control of a diverse spectrum of humanity....but when they died, were they lost to us, their great great grandchildren, or did they help us to come here and further the work?
i believe that we all have a host of faerie around us guiding our lives on earth. when i have been blessed to see with my heart and percieve these spirits that surround me every moment, the gleaning of their faces immediately told me that these are my kin! they were all so familiar, as if i had known them forever...which of course i had. many people of all spiritual persuasions feel they have guides, or a guardian angel, etc.... to me, this is all faerie.

i hope you can make sense of this humble offering of my personal "in sight".....i am writing this amidst the chaos of a bustling business and a few children and animals! and many unseen helpers and helpful mischief makers....please excuse me, if i could be more clear and organized i certainly would, but i am a bit of a wild faerie woman by nature...and alas, chaos often does reign!

may your ancestral host surround you, and guide you all the days of your life, and may you remember where you came from, and where you are going...and i will see you there of course!

Am I just looking in the wrong places or has Woodland and/or others who attended posted them yet? Are you still uploading? I saw two on the band's site but I want to know if there are more, and if we will see them here or some other site. Will this include pictures of the ball?

I'm also wondering Kelly, if the building you were in for the ball had a lot of sculptures/figurines on the friezes, and if there were columns and a lot of grey stone? I had a dream about this place and I've never seen it. There were beautiful female heads and figures in some of the stonework, both above on these triangle shaped frieze things and in this enclosed garden around it. There were also smaller buildings around this big one and something that looked like a gazeebo. You had to go up a flight of stairs to get into one part of the main building too. Or maybe I was just dreaming...

We had talked with a few elven people about this and discovered there didn't seem to be any elven dating or personal sites on any of our searches. There are plenty of forums and other kinds of elf sites but none specifically for personals. And we have also talked to elven people who say they have a hard time finding others to relate to and for relationships because of how they believe.

So, we created a site for Elven people to be able to do that!
Right now most of the active members are girls.... maybe the guys are waiting??

Over two stories on forested stages, the centerRing presents the mesmerizing music of charismatic singer song-writer Lance Grider, gypsy caravan music of The Children of Paradise, marimba madness with Kiri Kiri, otherworldly incantations of Capra J’neva, poetic weavings of Chaotika Tantrika Electronika, down-tempo with DJ Metatron, and tribal rhthyms of DJ Layla.

OK, so we here at Woodland Central are looking for some input! Where should we play? When? Why should we play there, then?

Basically what we're looking for is excuses to put on our magical faerie shows in places we've not done it yet. Should we play Seattle? San Fran? Timbuktu? Should we do it for a holiday? For a birthday? For no good reason other than we wanna?
